The saddest thing about the teaching profession is that there is so little good teaching taking place.
There are a number of reasons for this. The predominant one is the sheer immensity of the education system. It is an immense sticky ball of inertia. From the top down, it is comprised of inept “educators” who have no idea how teaching should occur. And graft? Oh my god, the system is riddled with this cancer.
I had the good fortune to be part of the New Mexico textbook adoption committee when the state committed to the math textbooks that would be available for the next cycle of years.
Having your textbook series selected is a true money maker for publishers. And they do whatever it takes to promote and sell them.
The most egregious behavior is too awful to describe here. It deserves – and will be given a page of its own.
